I’m happy to be part of the KidLitGN team creating a community for KidLit graphic novel creators. We’ve been busy working on a pitch event that’s happening in one week! We’re trying a new approach by hosting the regular Twitter pitch event and a website pitch event. Here are the details:
On May 5, 2021 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. EDT, we will host a Twitter pitch event. Un-agented authors/illustrators will pitch their MG and younger GN/hybrid projects using the hashtag #KidLitGN.
The website pitch event starts at 8 a.m. May 4 and ends 8 p.m. May 6, 2021, EDT. The window to add your pitch, however, starts on May 4 at 8 a.m. but ends May 5 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Pitches after that time will be deleted. May 6 is an extra viewing day for agents/editors.
How they differ:
The website based event is open to un-agented authors/illustrators, plus un-agented illustrators-only. AND agented illustrators and agented authors/illustrators who have the go ahead from their agents to pitch their work to editors.
For the website event:
Un-agented authors/illustrators pitching GN/hybrid projects will post their pitches in the comments sections of the pages corresponding to the age category for their pitch: MG, Early GNs, and Comic-style (graphic) PBs. See: kidlitgn.com for details
Agented authors/illustrators can use the Agented Pitches tab to find the pages for the age categories. Choose the age category for your pitch and post it in the comments section.
Un-agented illustrators-only will use the comments section in the Illustration Station tab to pitch a brief bio, plus image, and a link to their portfolio. There’s a separate page, also under Illustration Station, for agented illustrators to do the same.
If you post as an illustrator-only, you cannot also post in the sections for projects. Likewise, if you post a project, you cannot post in the Illustration Station section.
Illustrators posting in the Illustration Station section are allowed one post—you are promoting yourself as an artist.
Authors and author-illustrators who are posting projects, agented ones included, may post up to three separate projects across any age category. So no more than 3 projects total anywhere on the site.
Agents/Editors can express their interest in a pitch by replying to that pitch/comment. We have a “Submission Info” page where editors and agents can include their submission guidelines specific to this contest. For more details see: kidlitgn.com/agents-editors/
As a double bonus, creators who submit a pitch for the website event can win one of two prizes, a 12-month license for Clip Studio Paint EX or a copy of Ken Lamug’s new graphic novel Mischief and Mayhem.
